Senior Corporate Attorney The candidate serves as Legal advisor on business projects with minimal supervision. Recognizes and balances various interests and responsibilities of Legal and business client functions. Analyzes complex issues/concepts on a timely basis and memorializes them in well-developed agreements. Arrives at balanced solutions in contract negotiations. Works collaboratively and creatively with internal clients and provides broad spectrum legal contracting support, including day to day counseling. Clearly and effectively renders practical, timely legal advice. Serves as primary Legal advisor in the negotiation and settlement of business disputes to avoid litigation and protect the company's interests. Performs special projects as assigned and demonstrates leadership ability on a wide range of issues. Represents Legal department on cross-functional committees, both domestic and global. Collaborates with Legal colleagues in intersecting areas of IP, regulatory, litigation/risk management and insurance, including colleagues in Japan and the US. Identifies, develops and implements business process improvements that will enhance the delivery of legal counsel in supporting transactions and related business decision-making. Identifies training needs within client groups and assists in the development and presentation of training on relevant laws, regulations and legal/business issues. Manages outside counsel work so that it is timely and cost-effective. Works creatively with outside counsel on budgetary issues (including preparation and management of budgets and forecasts) to minimize fees and costs to resolve issues effectively.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree and license to practice law. Must have 5-7 years of related experience in corporate legal department or law firm. Should have knowledge and understanding of legal issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry, including US regulatory processes for prescription drugs and US anti-kickback, anti-bribery/anti-corruption and antitrust laws). Working knowledge of ex-US legal developments that affect decision-making in US and global businesses is needed. Knowledge and understanding of the prescription pharmaceutical industry, including IP, manufacturing, R&D, regulatory and commercial elements is required. Prior legal experience handling transactional legal and counseling matters for a company in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is essential. License to practice law in Illinois is preferred. Experience in working as in-house counsel responsible for transactional and counseling legal matters in the prescription pharmaceutical industry is desired.
