Senior Counsel - Commercial Real Estate The candidate will be responsible for providing general legal support to the business, and may include a primary focus on particular products. Handle a large volume of matters arising out of the commercial real estate business, with an emphasis on affordable housing. This will involve providing legal advice to commercial real estate senior managers, originators, asset managers, and loan administrators on a variety of matters of varying complexity to assist them in resolving and/or managing legal issues and in achieving their business goals. Primary tasks include counseling the business on product development and other new business initiatives, and reviewing and assisting with customer and vendor agreements primarily handled by outside counsel. In addition, responsible for reviewing marketing materials, conducting training for the business on selected topics, and monitoring and advising the business on legislative and regulatory changes applicable to the commercial real estate finance industry (again with an emphasis on affordable housing). Uses knowledge of legislation, regulations and case law affecting practice area in order to provide practical legal advice, develop policies and practices and ensure regulatory and legal compliance. Performs work with minimal supervision and in performing work exercises independent judgment and discretion.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have J.D. degree from an accredited law school. Must be currently licensed to practice in the courts of one or more states. Must have 10+ years of experience. Must have demonstrated ability to fulfill designated responsibilities. Should have ability to represent company effectively in interaction with external counsel for company and with counsel representing other parties. Should have following areas of experience/expertise: general knowledge of banking law; deep knowledge of commercial real estate finance law; familiarity with the financing of affordable and low-income housing projects through low income housing tax credits, governmental bonds, and various other federal, state and local housing programs; familiarity and experience working with outside counsel; and strong contract drafting, negotiating, and issue-spotting skills.
