Counsel, Group & Worksite Markets Duties: Provides legal support for Guardian's Group & Worksite Division, focusing primarily on matters related to group insurance, including dental, vision, life, disability, governmental programs as well as dental service organizations. Specific support expertise includes counseling of internal clients, negotiating and drafting contracts, including provider and Medicaid/Medicare agreements, providing regulatory advice, and ensuring compliance with Company guidelines. Consistently provide timely and high quality legal services to ensure that the Company's business is conducted within appropriate legal parameters, and that the Company stays competitive in changing market environments. Stay current with the marketplace environment in which clients operate and what legal strategies are best practices in light of market conditions. Balance business and legal objectives in order to achieve appropriate and efficient risk management while maximizing the Company's investment strategy. Manage client expectations as to achievable outcomes under given legal restrictions. Maintain day to-day client contact and collaborate with the Company's various business units, as necessary, to provide appropriate legal support and expertise and to keep stakeholders informed of progress. Manage outside counsel to ensure that such engagements are efficient and as cost-effective as possible while achieving the desired outcomes Ensure that outside expertise is efficiently used when required.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. Admission to at least one State Bar. 5 years of direct relevant experience at an insurance company, regulator, or law firm. Experience drafting provider agreements, Medicaid and Medicare contracts. Experience drafting distribution related agreements including broker, general agent, benefit administrator and third party administrator agreements. Experience handling health and other group insurance regulatory matters. Working knowledge of either health care law, group insurance, or government health programs. Preferably some knowledge of principles of dental service organization related law. Ability to multi-task, and work prioritization management. Clear understanding of current market environment and business objectives. Ability to assimilate legal requirements and strategies with market environments and business objectives. Strong skills and demonstrated experience in negotiating and drafting documentation, counseling clients, and effectively communication with various constituencies. Skills needed to bring complex transactions and issues to successful conclusion or resolution. Strong attention to detail.
