Associate Director of Communications Candidate will support the work of Department of Communications, particularly by leading efforts to engage members of more than 200 Lawyer and Student Chapters on communications strategies. Will be involved in a wide range of work that supports and promotes organization’s growing network of lawyers, law students, scholars and policymakers. Identify, build, cultivate and nurture relationships within organization’s Lawyer and Student chapters to advance communications’ work (traditional and otherwise). Lead on development of media strategies to raise visibility of organization’s nationwide network and special projects in the states: Supporting chapters’ events with appropriate media and social media outreach; For key issues, developing op-eds, letters to the editor and editorial board meeting strategies for staff and chapter leaders; and Building productive relationships with Lawyer and Student Chapter leaders, identifying and cultivating media surrogates in the field. Identify local media to build profile of organization and network. In collaboration with other members of the Communications Department, work to promote organization’s issues and help raise the visibility of the issues and the organization: Promote organization’s publications, events and staff to media; Draft news releases and advisories; Coordinate press and publicity for organization’s events, primarily Lawyer and Student Chapter events; Assist with writing tasks and materials development and in production of the organization’s Weekly Bulletin. Produce material for organization’s website, especially sections devoted to the Lawyer and Student Chapters. Help run online communications and social media outreach for the organization. Lead strategy in organization’s social networking efforts for the Lawyer and Student Chapters. Keep abreast of new trends and research in online marketing and social networking and identify implementation opportunities where appropriate. Perform other duties as requested based on Chapters’ needs, and/or organizational needs. Will report to the Vice President of Communications.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate with a J.D. degree is preferred. 5+ years of experience working in a communications or legal policy writing capacity is required. Experience working as a Hill or NGO communications staffer, in campaign or advocacy communications is desired.
