Legal Editor—Public Law Duties: Under general supervision independently perform legal research; analyze and summarize cases, statutes, and rules; input analysis into electronic manuscript files; write selected developments and case summaries, and perform legal editing on manuscript and forms as assigned. Perform legal research and analysis, which includes monitoring legal developments, and identifying, analyzing and evaluating new statutory, rule, case law, or other developments relevant to CEB content. Summarize and incorporate new developments into electronic manuscripts and Reporters as requested. Locate, identify and update all legal authorities cited in CEB content; analyze cited authorities and correct legal inaccuracies in the manuscript or errors in citation style. Edit legal manuscript, as assigned. Do research and analysis needed to prepare CaseAlerts for AccessLaw as requested. Keep up to date on the latest electronic legal research tools and techniques and know how to use them (e.g., Westlaw Next, etc.). Act as mentor and/or train staff on legal research procedures.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. Experience in Public Law or tort law preferred. Ability to edit, revise, and update material accurately and thoroughly in assigned substantive areas. Excellent legal research skills including the use of electronic online research tools, such as Westlaw and Lexis, and citation verification programs. Ability to adapt writing style to meet CEB guidelines for all delivery formats. Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated command of the English language. Highly effective communication and collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team both within existing department, in other departments and outside of CEB. Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to effectively manage time, work in an organized and detailed manner to meet tight deadlines, keep accurate records, and produce desired results. Excellent problem solving skills and ability to be flexible and proactive. Ability to navigate and participate effectively in social media websites. Proficient in standard personal computer applications such as MS Office applications (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel), Westlaw, Lexis, and cite checking programs.
