Profile

Deputy Executive Director Duties: Reporting directly to the Executive Director, will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight and performance of the Association’s operations to include leadership and accountability for the Association’s for-profit business entities and for other departments and entities as assigned. In periods of absence of the Executive Director, will function as the leader of the Association within delegated operating authorities. Responsible and accountable for improvements in membership and non-dues revenue programs, and to lead multiple business units in both the for-profit and not-for-profit areas to ensure fulfillment of mission-critical business objectives that align with the Association’s strategy and enhance the value proposition to its members. Leads and ensures alignment of behaviors and deliverables of an assigned group of senior leaders focused on optimizing service delivery, reduction of unnecessary organizational/practice redundancies, and the attainment of key objectives. In the absence of the Executive Director, functions as the leader of the Association within his/her delegated operating authorities. Functions as a key confidant to the Executive Director on the strategic direction of the Association and the capabilities needed to fulfill its mission. Provides oversight of the strategy and vision of non-dues revenue efforts of the Association including business development initiatives, financial modeling, and metrics to enhance the membership experience. Drives the concepts of continuous improvement throughout the Association and identifies waste, redundancy, or suboptimal processes. Works with appropriate senior managers and affected business units on improvement efforts. Analyzes and provides recommendations to the Executive Director regarding which ABAction! initiatives to develop and prioritize, and how to obtain the optimal return on investment as the initiatives are being developed/implemented. Drives positive organizational change and fosters the proper culture for both members and staff which solidifies the service culture to our members, commitment to our staff members, and the value of integrity in everything the Association does. Functions as a key contact to the Board of Governor on Association operational matters. Provides work direction, performance feedback, coaching, counseling, and, where appropriate, applies discipline to and through subordinates. May represent the Association at public, civic, and/or regulatory events to ensure that the Association optimizes its positive perception and image.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred: JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school. License to practice law granted by an approved State Bar or comparable, competent licensing authority within the United States or its territories. 10+ years’ experience leading and being accountable for the development, deployment, and ongoing operations for profit and/or not-for-profit business entities. Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget. Experience collaborating with internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet broad-based Association goals within budget and established timelines. Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates. Experience presenting and reporting on project plans and cost benefit analyses to appropriate stakeholders, executives and senior management.
