Managing Attorney - Public Benefits - Housing Duties: The candidate will manages and provides mentoring and coaching to the Project Specialist (PS). Supervise the work of volunteers, paralegals, law students, temporary employees and interns. Plans, administers and oversees all substantive activities in public benefits law, oversees the Immigration Legal Advice & Referral Clinic and co-manages the Advocacy & Justice Clinic to include: Providing on-site supervision and support to volunteers. Formulating scope of legal problems covered. Designing and implementing service delivery models to address unmet legal needs. Planning and directing volunteer trainings, including preparation of training materials and recruitment of trainers. Overseeing intake, screening and selection of cases for placement. Recruiting mentors and serving as a resource for volunteer attorneys. Monitoring of volunteer caseloads and development of periodic progress reports. Managing the volunteer and client database. Evaluating effectiveness and relevance of each delivery model. Developing and administering budgets. Overseeing all aspects of administration and operations of clinic programs, including quality control. Collaborates with other Managing Attorneys to support other clinics and projects, including, but not limited to the Landlord Tenant Resource Center, the Consumer Law Resource Center, and the Advice & Referral Clinic, to include: Providing on-site supervision and/or support to volunteer lawyers and legal assistants and assisting with recruitment and recognition of volunteers. Establishing and maintaining records and quality control systems. Identifying training and support needs of volunteers and coordinating periodic training sessions. Preparing training materials. Identifying needs for pro se materials and coordinating their development. Preparing project evaluations and periodic reports. Serves as convener and resource for pro bono and public interest advocates. Provides substantive and programmatic support for clinics and special projects as emerging needs of the Pro Bono Center require. Helps represent the Pro Bono Center with the courts, administrative agencies, the private bar and other legal services providers and community-based organizations. Assists in the drafting and development of proposals, budgets and other fundraising materials. Drafts reports, articles, memoranda, publications and resource materials. Must have 5+ years of pqe and A J.D. from an ABA accredited law school. An active member of the D.C. Bar or eligible to become an active D.C. Bar member.
