Profile

The Paralegal of Intellectual Property Management will provide paralegal and administrative support to the Director IP Management and at least one other patent attorney in the department.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Monitor and update IP docket systems  (IPMS) and patent and trademark databases for the RE-SU-NA business line
  • Monitor deadlines and due dates by docketing incoming and outgoing correspondence utilizing in-house docketing system for formal requirements on patent filings
  • Autonomous handling of formal requirements on patent fillings, such as filing forms, affidavits, assignments, declarations, information disclosure statements, etc.
  • Monitor deadlines and due dates by docketing incoming and outgoing correspondence utilizing in-house docketing system for patent attorneys
  • Communicate with German IPM colleagues, regarding filings, forms, and related matters on a daily basis
  • Maintain and update IP agreement database, including entering agreements and associated obligations
  • Maintain accurate agreement filing system
  • Preparation of trademark and patent portfolios for the various BUs
  • Incumbent will also promote and maintain the principles of and responsibilities related to Responsible Care within his/her assigned areas of responsibility and as defined in the RC 14001 management system.
  • Monitor and coordinate IPM-NA and IPM-TTL  e-mail inboxes for external law firm correspondence as well as new NDA requests respectively
  • Coordinate IPM billing and invoicing
  • Assist IPM-NA director and at least one other patent attorney as necessary and required
  • Travel arrangements (including air, hotel, dinner reservations, etc.)
  • Coordinate external and internal meetings, to include when necessary: catering, presentation requirements, invitation mailings, etc.
  • Generate presentations using Microsoft® Power Point and Excel charts / graphs,
  • Pro-active and independent handling of IP formality matters which have been delegated to incumbent
  • Handling of extremely sensitive proprietary company as well as personnel information
  • Coordination and handling of the IPM billing process

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Some college or paralegal certificate (from an accredited program) preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience in a corporate office (in a law firm, or in-house corporate legal or Intellectual Property (IP) department preferred).
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, SAP, Lotus Notes) are required; proficiency in searching computerized legal databases is strongly preferred
  • Must have a strong attention to detail and have a high degree of personal initiative and have the ability to work well in teams
  • Must be exceptionally well organized, be able to multi task, and be able to work under pressure in the face of competing demands
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills, excel in verbal and non-verbal communications, and be self motivated.
  • Knowledge of SAP databases would be helpful
  • Knowledge of German language would be helpful
