Litigation - Foreclosure (Lender-side)
Litigation Paralegal The candidate will be responsible for all phases of case management, including the preparation of case files. Processes discovery and trial documents, routine correspondence and litigation documents. Prepares status reports and conducts electronic and broad-based legal research. Compiles, analyzes and summarizes data, which may include witness summarizations. Typically utilizes computerized networks and software applications/databases. Duties: Reviews and outlines depositions. Manages case files and projects and coordinates with outside clients and vendor. Complete day-to-day discovery projects, organizes materials, and promptly and thoroughly responds to attorney requests. Establishes, organizes and maintains attorney trial notebooks, witness notebooks, document indexes and lists. Maintains court and deposition calendars and other databases. Researches legal matters and performs fact gathering. Collects, compiles, and utilizes technical information to make independent decisions and recommendations to the supervising attorney. Demonstrates some evaluation, originality and ingenuity in assignments that are more complex in character. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks. Applies standard skills, techniques, procedures, criteria to problems of a diverse scope. Performs increasingly complex fact research including online research and review and retrieval of documents from clients and other parties, and outside sources such as the Internet, public agencies, courts or libraries. May oversee work of case assistants or more junior paralegals. Assists attorneys and/or more senior paralegals at trial as requested (preparing new exhibits, tracking and/or summarizing trial testimony).
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must possess one of the following: A certificate of completion from a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association. A degree from a post secondary institution that includes 24 units of law-related courses. A Bachelor of Arts degree or an advanced degree in any subject with one year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney. 5+ years of legal experience is preferred. Should have strong knowledge of business English, legal terminology, spelling, and punctuation. Intermediate knowledge of the preparation and use of legal documents, administrative, and court procedures, relevant laws, law office practice/procedures and ethics. Must possess knowledge of commercial, insurance, and mass tort law. Experience filing in state and federal courts. Must also have experience with e-filing. Extensive knowledge of MS Office, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Knowledge of Access, E-discovery, Concordance, Summation and LAW is needed. Should have ability to use search tools, including Westlaw and Lexis Nexis.
