Regulatory Research Officer/Attorney The candidate will assist the Appeals department with Medicare and Medicaid regulatory research and draft legal arguments for use in appeals. Will work closely with the Appeal Officer, department Director and Senior Medical Directors to develop content for various appeal templates, maintain vigilance over various CMS and CMS contractor updates and update regulatory arguments accordingly and assist with Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Hearing process. Provide regulatory advice and support to overall Government Appeals Department, as well as other departments and assistance with special projects assigned by Director, as needed. Responsibilities: Legal research under the direction of the department Director. Ensure process deadlines and oversee the maintenance of regulatory and clinical argument libraries. Create training tools and reference materials to assist department with appeal process. Assist with Quality Reviews of Legal Memorandum drafted in lieu of ALJ Hearings and drafting of higher level regulatory appeal documentation to departmental Appeals Board level of review. Oversight of ALJ appeal process and participation in various aspects of ALJ Hearing, including potential for participation in hearings as Regulatory Advisors. Perform other duties as may be assigned by management.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Law degree. Should have extensive legal research experience utilizing LEXIS. Must have Medicare/Medicaid appeals experience. Should be highly Computer and Internet Literate. Must have proficiency with regulatory analysis and interpretation. Should have strong analytical skills. Must have excellent problem solving skills. Organization skills are needed.
