Director Of Policy, Outreach, And Legislative Affairs The candidate coordinates the Department’s work in developing, interpreting, and disseminating tax policy, serving internal divisions and external stakeholders. Reports directly to the Commissioner, and manages a team including economists, policy analysts, and outreach specialists. Collaborates with the department’s business units and other state agencies to draft and analyze tax legislation, research taxpayer issues, train staff and educate the public on tax matters. Will be responsible for coordinating the department’s relationship with key stakeholders, including the legislature, the department’s advisory boards, tax practitioners and industry groups. Work on complex public policy issues.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have graduate degree in law, public administration or a related field, and management experience in an organization focused on public policy and community outreach. Must have management experience. 2 years management experience in an organization focused on public policy and community outreach, and additional relevant experience, may substitute for education. Should have experience drafting professional caliber documents, such as policy reports, legal briefs, memorandum, legislation, or other similar work products. Should have superior analytic and communication skills. Must have demonstrated progression of increased responsibility in organizations focused on public policy and community outreach. Should have excellent speaking, writing and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate on the highest level with other senior public leaders. Must have skills to spearhead initiatives that both draw on the Department’s resources and support its programs and operations. Must have ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
