Docket Staff Attorney Duties: Provides litigation process guidance to Docket & Court Services team as well as attorneys and other staff. Reviews court rules, both new and updated, and communicates significant changes to Docket Team and Office of General Counsel. Reviews court orders to ensure that related deadlines are properly entered into docketing system. Assists Director with the development of department related training programs for attorneys and staff. Reviews CompuLaw Rule Set changes for accuracy, sends Court Rule Update Impact Analysis report to attorneys whose cases are affected by rule changes. Creates and updates customized CompuLaw User Rule sets as needed for judge’s standing orders, scheduling orders and non-covered jurisdictions. Reviews court orders received in department and assures that all related Event entries have been accurately calendared by Docket Staff. Communicates with attorneys regarding significant orders entered in their cases to assure that proper deadlines are reflected in the CompuLaw data base. Provides feed-back to Director regarding Staff docketing issues and assists with development of staff training and/or best practice procedures. Provides back up for routine State Court appearances (e.g. agreed orders, routine motions, etc.). Resource for docket staff and attorneys regarding court rules and requirements related to service and filing. Maintains up-to-date procedural rules for the U.S. District Courts and various State Courts. Prepares summaries of new and revised court rules and submits to Director and Office of General Counsel for review and distribution to appropriate individuals and/or Practice Groups. Provides end of case summaries which reflect outcome (e.g. settlement, trial) which are coded and added to the CompuLaw data base. Assists with maintenance of knowledge management efforts. Participates in Docket Department orientation of new associates and lateral transfers. Assists Director with development and presentation of Department related CLE accredited training programs for attorneys. Assists Director with development of Department related training programs for paralegals, project assistants and secretarial staff.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: J.D. Degree or equivalent. Admission to a Bar in jurisdiction where Firm has office (preferably Illinois). B.S. / B.A. Degree from an accredited college or university. 5+ years litigation experience. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of federal & state court systems, including electronic filing procedures. Experience with rules-based docketing systems.
