Managing Attorney/Staff Attorney III The candidate provides advanced legal support to the Board of Law Examiners, Board of Continuing Legal Education, Board of Legal Certification, and the Lawyer Registration Office. The position also provides management assistance to the Director and supervises professional staff, including lawyers and paralegals. Provides legal analysis and conducts research; drafts revisions to Rules and supporting Supreme Court petitions; drafts legal memoranda and summaries for Board consideration; staffs committees and special projects of the Board; attends Board meetings and provides legal counsel as needed. Conducts periodic review of all Board policies; drafts, revises, and updates polices; ensures accuracy of template language. Handles investigation of complex character and fitness files; reviews memorandums drafted by Attorney for Character and Fitness and Staff Attorney and provides recommendations; analyzes grounds for denial. Determines eligiblity of motion applicants and non-ABA graduates. Manages litigation and drafts the Board's findings of fact, conclusions of law, and final decisions after Board hearings. Collaborates with office staff to develop, test, and manage technology. Assists in the management of work flow; serves on hiring committee; manages day-to-day administration of office in the absence of Director. Participates in grader conferences to ensure calibration with Uniform Bar Examination requirements. Advises as to whether course accreditation decision comply with Rules. Assesses accrediting agencies compliance with Board of Legal Certification Rules; Monitors IT issues in conjunction with IT Administration. Assists Staff Attorney with contract issues, as necessary. Should have J.D. from an ABA-approved law school. Must have 5 years of competent performance as an attorney, including advocacy skills. Should have 3 years of progressively responsible managerial experience, including supervision of professional level staff. Must have demonstrated analytical legal writing and skill in applying logical thinking to individual cases; Skill in appraising facts and preparing clear and concise summaries. Should have considerable knowledge of state law, Supreme Court Rules, and professional licensing requirements. Demonstrated general management ability and knowledge of supervisory principles are needed. Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
