Staff Attorney Responsibilities : The candidate will Litigate in federal court to defend existing rules and policies concerning public lands from industry attack in the courts, and challenge attempted rollbacks of public lands rules and policies by company administration executive agencies. Comment on proposed rules that would undermine protections for public lands. Defend and promote public lands laws, rules and policies through research and advocacy. Engage and mobilize with a broad coalition of allied groups in defense of public lands laws and policies. Prepare communications, including press releases, op-eds, factsheets and white papers. Speak publicly at conferences and other events, as well as with the media, about the need to preserve and maintain current federal laws, rules, and policies concerning public lands management and protections. Some travel required.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements : The candidate should have minimum three(3) years civil litigation experience. Experience with federal lands and environmental statutes such as the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, National Forest Management Act and National Environmental Policy Act. A high degree of scientific literacy. Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. An ability to manage a litigation docket and to work well independently and with others as part of an effective team. A demonstrated commitment to environmental protection. Experience with media outreach, interviews and other public speaking preferred.
