Associate Attorney Responsibilities: Perform client consultations; spot issues and develop action plans for clients to achieve desired results. Research applicable laws and regulations re: client matter. Gather data relevant to the case including witness statements. Draft demand letters and negotiate pre-litigation settlements. Draft and negotiate settlement agreements. Draft and file complaints in state and federal court. Draft discovery inquiries and responses. Draft motions and responses including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgement and discovery motions. Take and defend witness depositions including expert witnesses. Act as lead counsel or second-chair at state and federal court hearings & trials. Handle the administration part of maintaining, updating and keeping track of important legal documents in the client’s file. Draft various contracts, agreements, and manuals for employer clients. Works directly with employers in providing legal advice and counsel on a broad range of employment law issues, including recruiting; hiring; employee relations; discipline and terminations; restructurings and reductions-in-force; internal investigations; leaves of absence; wage and hour compliance; EEO compliance; HR policies; independent contractors and contingent workers; and restrictive covenant matters. Assist in trial preparation including witness and client preparation; exhibit control, and witness management. Help marketing the firm and your position to create new business for the firm.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: NC Bar Admission. 2-5 years' Employment law knowledge. 2-4 years' Litigation experience. Ability to research and comprehend complex state and federal employment and contract laws. Excellent persuasive writing skills. Strong negotiation skills. Exceptional organization and time management skills. Possess a thorough knowledge of state and federal civil procedure rules. Enthusiasm for continuing legal education. Technologically savvy. Persuasive communication skills that will help in building trust and broadening the client base. Accuracy in the delivery of quality legal work product. Exceptional client skills in creating positive relationships. Strong management skills of non-lawyers. High ethical standards. Ability to learn and work within Action Step, the firm’s cloud-based case management system. Have an interest in understanding the business end of the practice of law. Blog writing and other marketing skills.
