Staff Attorneys Duties: Represent clients in civil legal matters and work with community organizations and client groups. Will work in our Housing unit to provide comprehensive legal assistance to clients in civil cases in private landlord/tenant issues, including evictions. Will also provide comprehensive legal assistance to clients experiencing violations of the Fair Housing Amendments Act pursuant to private enforcement initiative funding from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Will operate in accordance with program guidelines and priorities, with the workload division between the private landlord/tenant clients and the private enforcement initiative grant varying based on client needs and funding.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must be admitted to practice law in Tennessee, planning to sit for the July 2017 Tennessee Bar, or be licensed in another state and eligible for temporary admission. 0-3 years’ experience. Litigation experience preferred. Demonstrated interest in public interest Law; Experience advocating for the interests of low-income populations; Strong academic record; Excellent analytical, problem solving, computer, and verbal and written communication skills; Demonstrated ability to handle a demanding workload; Ability to work collaborative, within community partners. should have a strong commitment to access for equal justice for our low income neighbors in West Tennessee who face overwhelming problems regarding basic rights to shelter security, income security, financial security, special education and freedom from abuse for which there is a legal solution.
