Senior Staff Attorney - Immigrant Justice Project The candidate will develop and litigate individual and class action cases raising constitutional and statutory claims in federal courts, at trial and appellate levels. Engage in litigation and public advocacy related to civil rights issues, particularly relating to immigrants in the Deep South. Supervise staff attorneys and/or other legal staff. Focus on advancing integration of immigrants as full members of their communities in ten Southern states. Represent immigrants in removal defense proceedings and related legal work including motion practice in immigration court, affirmative applications, detained and non-detained representation, and appeals to agency and Article III courts. With partner organizations, train, supervise, and mentor pro-bono attorneys to provide high quality representation. Develop new cases and campaigns, lead litigation and public advocacy under supervision of the Deputy Legal Director or Senior Supervising Attorney. Analyze legal developments and provide technical assistance to allies, communities, and partner organizations. Supervise outreach activities related to cases and campaigns. Communicate regularly with the company staff across the southern region about cases, campaigns, and strategies. Develop relationships with civil society rooted within immigrant communities. Represent the company in various fora, including before community groups, legislatures, and state agencies, and the press. A Juris Doctor Degree and 5+ years of federal court civil litigation or comparable legal experience, with a preference for experience with removal defense and complex civil rights litigation required. Excellent research and writing skills required. Prior experience working with survivors of trauma preferred. Bilingual in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in the Southeastern United States (e.g., Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, or Arabic) required.
