Profile

Senior Counsel The candidate will advise and provide competent, efficient, fast and cost-effective legal guidance for Spectrum Networks business leaders on day-to-day legal matters. Will provide guidance and handle litigation for the news and current affairs programming operations. Issues involved include libel/defamation claims, fair use and intellectual property analyses, pre-publication review, shield law, FOIL, law enforcement subpoenas, and other First Amendment questions. Structure, negotiate and draft multimedia rights agreements with rights holders (including professional and collegiate teams, leagues and conferences), acquisition and joint venture agreements, marketing and sponsorship agreements, production agreements, talent agreements, vendor agreements, sweepstakes and contests and other agreements related to network content and operations. Oversee and advise on all aspects of network compliance (e.g., closed captioning), including contractual compliance, compliance with league and conference rules, rights and clearances, music and footage licensing. Work with all departments and senior executives from production, marketing, communications, operations and digital departments to advise on day-to-day legal and business affairs issues. Liaise with internal legal groups, including regulatory, government affairs, programming acquisition, litigation, and finance, and manage outside counsel and paralegal support. Research, develop, draft contracts and negotiate in partnership with business leaders. Analyze and interpret the most complex documents and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries. Define concerns, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school as well as admission to the appropriate federal and state bar associations required. Should have 7+ years of experience in media law. Should have strong leadership skills, excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
