Patent Agent Duties: Responsible for U.S. patent preparation as well as U.S. and foreign prosecution. Working in a collaborative environment with patent attorneys, other agents, inventors, technical leaders and business leaders, patent agent will file and prosecute directly with the USPTO, so registration as a patent agent is a requirement. Working with inventors to define the scope of the invention, educating technical and business colleagues on IP best practices, and developing IP strategic plans. Handle technologies under development in CR&D, including research in electronics & communications, performance polymers, high strength fiber, high temperature materials, and sustainable chemicals and materials from biological routes, to name a few.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: M.S. / Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular biology or Chemistry; 3-5 years of experience in drafting and/or prosecuting patent applications as a Registered U.S. Patent Agent; Ph.D. degree in chemistry, physics, materials/polymer science, physics or chemical engineering. Direct R&D laboratory experience for 5+ years. Experience in foreign patent prosecution. Experience in working with business and technical teams to develop IP strategies for key technical programs. Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Drafted and/or prosecuted at least 25 USPTO patent applications; Ability to multi-task and meet aggressive IP timelines; Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction; Strong attention to detail; Superior communication skills – both written and oral.
