Trademark Paralegal Duties: Provide timely and cost-effective paralegal services to Performance Chemicals and its business units in the management, administration and protection of the company’s trademark estate. Act as liaison between Performance Chemicals business units, coordinating trademark counsel, U.S. and foreign agents and U.S. and foreign Patent & Trademark Offices on all matters in support of the prosecution, renewal and protection of the company’s trademark estate. Conduct trademark search and clearance work and provide recommendations, in coordination with counsel, to support the development and registration of new marks. Provide support for the maintenance of existing product and service marks. Provide support for office actions, opposition and cancellation actions, collection of evidence of use and preparation of related affidavits. Assist in periodic trademark portfolio reviews, as well as portfolio strategy and planning in coordination with attorneys and business clients. Act as primary contact with foreign agents for all routine day-to-day interactions. In coordination with counsel and business clients, support preparation of routine cease and desist letters and other similar enforcement actions, in order to protect the estate against infringement and misuse. Provide trademark paralegal support for special projects, including but not limited to mergers and acquisitions. Provide general trademark advice to business segment clients and corporate clients (with supervision).
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Four year Bachelor’s degree, together with either a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA accredited college program or the equivalent training derived from relevant work experience. 3-5 years’ minimum paralegal experience or specialized training meeting the job requirements. Familiarity with Lexis/Nexis and Westlaw and other general paralegal research tools, and the use of relevant databases. Familiarity and facility with the standard Microsoft Office suite of software products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Strong experience and skills working with electronic docket administration systems. Strong search skills using one or more of the major trademark search systems such as Saegis/Corsearch.
