Paralegal Duties: Will support the ASR patent team with a senior paralegal. Will work closely with Patent Attorneys to advise clients on a broad range of patent related issues and partner with worldwide company's research labs and technology centers (in Redmond, Asia, India, England, Israel, etc.) to help define and drive a patent strategy that aligns with the labs overall objectives. Will report to the Associate General Counsel for the ASR Patent Team, serve as the primary point of contact for client groups, and have frequent contact with various levels of company's researchers and inventors and outside counsel and vendors. Develop and maintain key contacts in ASR to stay current on the organization's structure and research areas. Work with company's patent attorneys, internal teams and outside counsel, to identify and protect patents relating to specific research. Counsel the client groups to select the appropriate inventions to patent, determine appropriate filing timelines and manage filing strategies to achieve patent protection within budget expectations, including managing filing date deadlines, signature requirements, foreign filing licenses, and export controls. Partner with the research labs/groups and technology based patent teams to organize and summarize the scope and breadth of intellectual property assets and refine patent filing plans over time based on the business strategy. Partner with the ASR Attorneys to manage U.S. and International Patent prosecution decisions and International filing decisions. Serve as representative for ASR patent team on process improvement task force efforts, data quality initiatives, tool development efforts, Anaqua system releases and Anaqua data quality/governance committees.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification Requirements: A BA/BS degree, paralegal certificate, or relevant work experience. 6 months of experience with patents (e.g., patent prosecution), such as in a law firm or corporation, is preferred. Substantial experience working with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Prior experience and general knowledge in the computer software technology field desirable. Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, while interfacing with a variety of personalities across a large number of diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, and cultures. Excellent analytical problem solving, ability to deal with ambiguity and move forward based on solid assumptions and risk mitigation. Ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations. Strong organizational and project management skills, with a desire and ability to work with diverse teams. Ability to learn new data collection systems quickly and escalate issues appropriately. Excellent issues management skills, including ability to identify root causes, drive for resolution, and make improvements systematically. Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal).
