Senior Patent Paralegal Duties: Prepares patent application documents, amendment documents, and other filings for submission to the US and foreign Patent and Trademark Offices and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). US filings are primarily performed electronically substantially on the Private PAIR interface for the U.S. Patent Office. Foreign filings are primarily performed through foreign counsel and PCT filings are typically performed directly through WIPO. Maintains patent docket using CPI docketing software, generates patent docket and patent status reports as directed by attorneys, prepares patent research as directed by attorneys. Prepares, reviews, revises, and redlines patent applications and other legal documents as directed by attorneys, manages communications with outside US and OUS law firms used for patent services. Prepares agendas for Invention Review Board Meetings. Processes invoices/bills for patent services for payment according to SJM policies and procedures. Interfaces with inventors in processing invention disclosures, patent awards and responding to status queries. Provides counsel or assistance to less experienced paralegals.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certificate required. 8+ years' experience as patent paralegal for major law firm and/or corporate legal department including primary responsibility for docket maintenance using docketing software. Excellent writing and communication skills. Thorough knowledge of US Patent and Trademark Office's EFS filing system. Excellent reputation for building relationships across various levels of an organization. Experience with CPI docketing system.
