Paralegal Intern Duties: Allow the student intern to gain work experience in a field closely aligned with their major and educational discipline. The internship program will afford the student intern the opportunity to gain necessary knowledge, experience, and skills in the field of Public Defense and Criminal Justice. Cover all aspects of work within the organization. Specific job duties will vary depending on where the student is placed. The Paralegal intern may perform the following duties: Researches law; Investigates facts and prepares documents to assist an attorney; assist the defense team in interviewing witnesses, family members and other individuals involved with the case; examine assigned aspects of the case related to the legal process, such as eyewitness testimony, jury decision making or client decision-making; collect and present analysis of pertinent records, including educational, medical, mental health, etc.; writes Motions; writes letters to clients; assist in keeping a concise calendar of due dates, trial and hearing dates, deposition dates, court dates, when items are due from the court or prosecutor’s office, etc.; and perform other duties as needed within specific area of placement. Note: This internship is unpaid.
