Conference Officer The candidate under general supervision, performs professional work of moderate difficulty providing mediation and negotiation to Family Court litigants resulting in an ultimate court order regarding establishment, modification and enforcement of court orders in compliance with statutory and local rule requirements. Conduct conferences using mediation strategies and negotiation skills to promote full agreements between parties. Parties may be self represented or may be represented by attorneys. Mediate, draft stipulations and corresponding orders for the Court's review and signature. Prepare reports which indicate the parties' positions and agreements. Make appropriate recommendations to the court based upon the parties' positions and draft Orders for the Court's review and signature after conferences based upon the information obtained during the conference. Research and interpret support orders, parent-child access orders and financial information including medical benefits, income statements, tax returns, self-employment tax returns, parenting time orders, credit reports, medical billings and invoices and legal cases. Uses knowledge and expertise to aid the parties in arriving at agreements whenever possible and make conscientious recommendations to the Court based upon the information obtained from the parties during the conference and application of child support guidelines and case law. Calculation, modification and enforcement of support and support arrears in a conference setting with parties present. Maintain and promote positive professional inter-personal relationships with judicial staff. Respond to inquiries from the public and judicial staff. Specialize in application and interpretation of the Arizona Child Support Guidelines. Testify in Court as requested or subpoenaed.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelor's degree and either: 1 year of legal, family services or child support establishment/enforcement experience; OR certification of completion of a Legal Assistant program from an ABA accredited school; OR successful completion of the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) examination and documentation of current CLA status. Successful completion of 40 hours of certified family law mediation training and knowledge of Alternative Dispute Resolution preferred. Must have knowledge of alternative dispute resolution systems and techniques, including mediation and negotiation skills. Should have knowledge of applicable family law statutes and rules of civil procedure. Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and rules pertaining to counseling, mediation, and negotiation are needed. Knowledge of legal research methods and techniques; court processes, procedures and operations are needed. Skills needed: Skill in conflict resolution and interpersonal relationships; Skill in creating, composing and editing written materials; Skill in conducting mediation and negotiations; Skill in performing complex numerical calculations; Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications; Skill in both oral and written communication; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Should have ability to read and interpret statutes, laws, rules and regulations. Note: Degrees/credits must be from an academically accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education (CHEA).
