PARALEGAL PROJECT SPECIALIST Duties: Supports attorneys in the Fraud & Special Prosecutions Section who handle complex financial fraud cases, white collar fraud, criminal enterprise, money laundering, environmental, and a variety of conflict prosecutions submitted by outside prosecution agencies, including wiretaps that are voluminous and document-intensive. Investigates facts; drafts legal memorandums, pleadings (or portions thereof), discovery requests and responses, affidavits, and correspondence. Generates and maintains reports of a complex and sensitive nature; preparation and analysis of voluminous legal documents, research and litigation support; reviews and summarizes consumer complaints and analyzes reports, statistics and information for purposes of identifying potential financial fraud. Manages the disclosure process in complex cases involving voluminous documents, including organizing of documents, bates stamping, redacting, creating disclosure index, conducting document review and preparation of discovery materials for trial cases. Responsible for assistance and support to attorneys in trial preparation and throughout trial. Research and analyze complex legal issues through the use of Westlaw, the Internet and library materials, and prepares written memoranda. Handles and sorts documentary evidence; and prepares cases of a complex nature. Utilizes software and data management programs such as Concordance, CaseMap and Trial Director. Gathers information to assist in investigations. Summarizes information obtained in examinations under oath, depositions and interrogatories. Organizes materials and evidence gathered for ready access by the attorney, and for preparation of exhibits as needed. Works with attorneys, secretaries and other FSP staff to meet formal and informal deadlines as a team. Participate in section and division management team meetings. Prepare reports as assigned. Tracks and enters billable hours in case management system. Help maintain a data base in support of various agencies in telephonic marketing Fraud Task Force.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications:Extensive and substantive criminal fraud experience and ability to assist attorneys with complex case cases. Extensive criminal law experience, 4+ years full-time employment as a paralegal; or a minimum three years full-time employment with the State of Arizona as a Paralegal Project Specialist; or any equivalent paralegal or legal education and/or experience. Should have bilingual skills and be fluent in written and oral communication in Spanish and English. Knowledge of techniques and principles used for writing briefs, reports, opinions and other legal memoranda and reviewing, organizing, bates stamping, and redacting voluminous documents. Knowledge of legal terminology, legal concepts and procedures of state laws, of the functions and jurisdictions of local and state courts. Knowledge of trial preparation, including creating trial notebooks, preparing subpoenas, maintaining witness contact list/files, trial exhibits, and summary charts. Knowledge and skill in the methods, techniques and principles of legal research and writing and interpretation of statutes and codes. Knowledge of extradition procedures, including ability to identify and prepare appropriate documents necessary to ensure extradition of a defendant. Knowledge of legal research methods and sources, and the ability to conduct legal research using Westlaw and library materials. Knowledge of rules of citation, statutes, and court rules and practices. Knowledge in Litigation Support Software- such as Concordance, CaseMap and Trial Director.
