Practice Assistant, Intellectual Property Duties: Working under the supervision of attorneys and paralegals, this position supports the delivery of quality legal services to clients by performing technical and clerical tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills and computer proficiency. Provide assistance to others in all aspects of litigation work, focusing on the organization and indexing of case material. Index and maintain pleading files, document collections, deposition transcripts and exhibit library. Under direct supervision, assist with the collection and preparation of documents for production. Organize documents in chronological order in preparation for depositions, trials, hearings, arbitrations and mediations. Index privileged and confidential documents for analysis. Perform redactions, coordinate copy projects, and compare copied documents to originals to ensure accuracy and quality of copies. Effectively utilize automated litigation support databases and applications, including creating databases and conducting searches. Distill and organize evidence through the preparation of summaries, indices, chronologies, witness binders, charts and graphs. Review files and obtain photocopies from court, the recorder’s office, etc. Use electronic research tools and the library to locate cases, statutes and legal authorities and compile these materials into binders. Assist in the organization of case materials and exhibits for motion preparation, hearings, trials, arbitrations and mediations. Draft routine fact memoranda and correspondence. Maintain and coordinate records of closed files. Perform various administrative tasks.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required; certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal training program or equivalent work experience preferred. Must have a strong academic background and the ability to work hard under pressure as demonstrated through extracurricular activities and prior work experience. Should have abilities to: work a flexible schedule, if necessary; become familiar with procedures, terminology and documents relating to complex matters; identify and index case-related documents; work effectively and proactively within a team environment; and coordinate multiple tasks concurrently. Prior legal experience is helpful but not required. Prior office experience is preferred.
