Magistrate Judge Courtroom Deputy Duties: Responsible for one of the most critical aspects of the federal court process and service to the public. Monitor and manage the Magistrate Judge’s caseload and court calendars; attend court proceedings; and examine all papers filed in an action for conformity with the rules of practice. Compose substance of minute orders to carry out expressed intentions of the Magistrate Judge; provides Criminal Duty, PIA, CVB and ECRO coverage; and prepare verdict forms and judgments. Call court to order; administer oaths; swear in witnesses; participate in the arraignment of defendants in criminal cases; and provide other courtroom assistance. Perform docketing functions in the national automated case management system; and provide quality control on attorney docketed entries. Coordinate and interact with judges, attorneys, agents, other court staff and the public.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: A college degree is strongly preferred. Paralegal experience is highly desired. 3+ years of progressively responsible office administrative experience, including the use of legal terminology, and the application of a body of rules, regulations, directions or laws to various situations. Routine use of computers and various computer programs such as Microsoft Office products is required. Typing ability of 45+ wpm. Excellent oral and written communication skills, a commitment to outstanding customer service, a high sense of personal responsibility, and possess excellent time management skills.
