Paralegal, Benefits The candidate will provide support and assistance to the Benefits Department and Managers regarding leave of absences, including FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) and related communications, policies and procedures. Assisting the Benefits Department on preparation of legal correspondence. Assisting and writing policies for the Benefits Department specifically relating to disability, FMLA and any applicable statutory leave of absences. Assisting Field Managers and People Empowerment Managers with the interactive process for accommodation requests, including providing guidance and drafting all correspondences regarding the reasonable accommodation process. Write policies on employment and labor law issues, specifically reasonable accommodations, leave and compliance matters (FMLA, ADA, ADEA), wrongful termination, retaliation, reductions in workforce, disciplinary actions and wage and hour. Create and provide training to managers regarding leave of absence policies, including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans with Disability Act (ADA). Draft employment-related agreements. Competently and professionally communicate with clients and Regional HR Managers. Prepare correspondence and utilize templates to create agreements. Assist with ad hoc projects on an as-needed basis. Maintain repository of documents and pull documents upon request. Complete tasks efficiently.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A certificate of completion or a degree from an approved paralegal program or post-secondary institution; or Bachelor’s degree. 3-4 years of relevant experience. Experience writing policies on employment and labor law issues, specifically reasonable accommodations, leave and compliance matters (FMLA, ADA, ADEA, FLSA), wrongful termination, retaliation, reductions in workforce, disciplinary actions and wage and hour. Experience in drafting employment-related agreements. Knowledge of California Leave policies and procedures, including multi-state Disability and Leave regulations.
