Paralegal Lead - Employment Duties: Will provide legal support, research and writing to the employment attorneys within the company's legal department. Will provide case management of the employment matters filed on behalf of or in defense of company. The assignments and responsibility require direct contact with internal and external clients, the ability to handle complex legal issues, the ability to work with significant independence and a candidate who possesses critical judgment. Draft pleadings, discovery, demand letters, cease and desist letters, separation agreements, waiver and release agreements and position statements. Interview witnesses and investigate complaints in order to respond to administrative charges. Coordinate and assist work of outside counsel on all employment litigation and administrative charge matters, including document compilation and management. Act as liaison between outside counsel and internal clients. Support investigations and compliance related initiatives. Conduct legal research. Assist in drafting of training materials to be delivered by attorneys or internal clients. Provide back up support to other paralegals in the law department, as needed. Perform other duties as may be assigned from time-to-time.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification Requirements: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Paralegal certificate or equivalent preferred. 10+ years of employment law paralegal experience with a corporate legal department or law firm required. Prior supervisory experience. Ability to perform all job duties of senior paralegal position, as needed. Prior experience using case management system a plus. Must have strong knowledge and experience with Internet research. Independent/hands on experience drafting pleadings, discovery, memoranda and legal correspondence with minimum supervision. Ability to express, whether written or oral, complex legal issues in clear concise language. Demonstration of superior organizational skills. Demonstration of excellent communication skills. Must be able to Interface with outside counsel and internal clients via phone and email. Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations required. Must be able to contribute to successful development and implementation of departmental initiatives. Must be able to identify need for internal control mechanisms to ensure corporate compliance, develop tools to track such compliance, and provide ongoing oversight. Superior organizational, analytical and communications skills required. Must have outstanding judgment and discretion with confidential matters. Proficiency with standard legal research tools including Lexis and Westlaw, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel Outlook and PowerPoint is required.
