Manager, Legal Duties: Report to an Associate General Counsel and/or Vice President within the Legal Department. Serve as a team member/leader on legal department or corporate initiatives. Provide services from Legal Department to support affiliated Facilities and Corporate Departments. Assigned corporate lawyers, this position will provide legal support for an assigned territory of subsidiaries, hospitals and corporate departments. Focuses heavily on contract review, drafting and management of contract workflow and processes, all of which ensure the substance of agreements comply with applicable laws and contain terms to protect the Company. Preparation and review of Core Contracts, requiring corporate pre-approval. Integral to this position is participation in the continuous improvement of contract processes, forms, and workflow in the delivery of legal services. Communication and collaboration with Hospital’s senior management (CEO, CFO, CNO, COO, CMO and Department Heads) and corporate personnel in all departments; Independently reviewing, analyzing and drafting contracts, bylaws and other legal documents, conducting legal research, and collaborating with lawyers; Demonstration of strong customer service skills and an ability to triage and respond to Hospital legal requests in appropriate priority, and communicate plans for addressing Hospital needs to supervisor and lawyer assigned to the hospital; Possession and demonstration of working knowledge and experience in the application of health care law to hospital contracting, particularly as to physician-hospital relationships, in addition to a general knowledge of legal issues associated with hospital operations, such as HIPAA, EMTALA, HCQIA; Preparation and delivery of Educational Resources to guide Hospitals in contract review process and in compliance with policies/processes related to contracts (e.g., verbal presentations, written intranet educational FAQs, instructions, and presentations); In conjunction with other members of the Legal Department, develop educational area on the Legal Department intranet webpage to provide information to Hospitals and LifePoint corporate personnel regarding contract procedures and associated forms, policies and necessary information. Investigation of issues related to compliance with contract terms and participation in resolution; Develop and implement a process to identify, monitor and manage the status of all projects assigned. After training provided, demonstrate proficiency with use of contract management system. Develop templates for frequently requested contract agreements and proposals. Management of the Company’s contracts and other legal matters will include ensuring that all documents are maintained electronically in an organized fashion, easily accessible by others who need the information. Provide training to other members of team or Legal Department, as needed or requested Participate or lead a team to accomplish assigned Legal Department or Company initiatives.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. 5-8 years experience as paralegal. Program Management, HCCA Certification preferred. Demonstrate the highest level of personal integrity and professional judgment, and must be able to work in a collaborative, collegial and respectful manner. Experience in contract review and drafting for health care clients. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Effective organizational skills, and ability to manage and track status of multiple projects. Ability to complete detail oriented projects and provide a comprehensive work product. Ability to work independently and be self sufficient. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate with personnel (Hospital Clients, Corporate Departments, Legal Department personnel), as well as work successfully with vendors, law firms and other external resources. Proficient with software to draft agreements or legal documents, including Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat products. Familiarity with contract management systems, preferred.
