Senior Patent Paralegal Duties: Will work in the areas of invention harvesting, patent prosecution and clearance for utility patent matters. Partnering with patent agents in gathering invention disclosures and materials for new applications, performing patent searches using international databases, maintaining and managing patent data and dockets within a patent database, contributing to the creation and maintenance of taxonomies to understand the patent portfolio, assisting with planning and executing forward patenting sessions, and preparing executive reports and presentations on patent activities using our internal database and external patent search or analytics tools. Will gather and organize prototypes, products, catalogs, marketing materials and other original documents for prosecution or infringement efforts and flag trademark and other legal issues as they may arise in the context of patent prosecution matters while collaborating with professionals managing patent and trade secret portfolios, and collaborating with IP patent litigation team as needed. Will support the efforts of patent attorneys and patent agents in implementing global prosecution and trade secret strategies. Will communicate cross-functionally within the IP COE (Center of Excellence) and with inventors, business partners and outside attorneys globally to manage the patent portfolio.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate, or 2 + years of experience in lieu of degree. Some experience with design patents and/or utility models helpful. 8+ years' law firm and/or in-house experience as a patent prosecution paralegal; Deep knowledge of domestic and international patent prosecution; Advanced search skills for domestic and international searches using internet-based patent databases; Extensive experience with IP portfolio management databases (experience with Anaqua preferred); Familiarity with patent analytics tools; Advanced skill level with Excel and Powerpoint, including pivot tables, charts and presentations; Experience developing and presenting training materials on patent-related topics; Experience creating and maintaining patent taxonomies; Ability to manage a complex and dynamic workload; Ability to organize, resource, plan and drive projects involving multiple stakeholders to success; Self-directed, persistent and comfortable working in ambiguous environments; Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong data management experience and low error rate; Excellent written and oral communication skills.
