Legal Assistant Duties: Will work under the supervision of an attorney. Provides legal support such as legal and documentary research; drafting legal documents, correspondence and pleadings of moderate complexity; maintaining and updating files; monitoring case schedules and filing deadlines. Conducting client, witness interviews; summarizing depositions, interrogatories, and testimony. work may be in support of moderately to highly complex customer litigation cases (e.g. case work, research, subpoenas, etc.) or non-litigation industry and/or corporate matters (statutes/regulations, contracts, etc.).
Qualification and Experience
Qualification Requirements: Associate's degree (or equivalent non-US educational degree) or higher in paralegal studies or law. 3+ years of litigation experience in a corporate (in house) environment or law office. Previous experience conducting electronic database research. Experience in performing records management a plus for this role. Previous experience in drafting legal documents, correspondence, discovery responses and/or pleadings. PC literate with proficiency in the use of Outlook, Word, Excel, Windows or other equivalent software and working knowledge of Internet research, including Lexis/Nexis. Ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines for multiple, simultaneous projects. Strong legal research, and computer (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills. Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree. Insurance industry experience. One or more professional certifications: CORE Registered Paralegal (CRP), PACE Registered Paralegal (PRP), Certified Paralegal (CP), Certified Legal Assistant (CLA), and Professional Paralegal (PP). Ability to effectively draft complex legal documents, correspondence, and/or pleadings. Ability to effectively conduct electronic database research, including Lexis/Nexis. Effective written and verbal communication; ability to summarize information clearly and concisely. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
