Legal Assistant (Part-Time) The candidate under direct supervision, provides support to designated attorneys performing work for the city by performing research, preparing and processing a variety of legal documents, and monitoring the status of legal actions; performs related duties as required. Reads and comprehends statutes, case law and other legal authorities, assists attorney with findings, drafting legal pleadings and documents. Assists with investigations and case preparation, coordinating between the City Attorney's office and other City departments and outside agencies. Monitors deadlines. Drafts resolutions and amendments to City ordinances for attorney review. Prepares correspondence. Other duties as assigned. Should have completed Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by 2 years of directly related experience. Knowledge: Working knowledge of federal and state laws and administrative regulations, local ordinances and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of office terminology, procedures, routines and equipment. Knowledge of computers and applicable software programs. Skills: Written and oral communication skills. Office equipment skills. Computer skills. Organizational skills. Legal research skills. Abilities: Ability to maintain accurate records and filing systems. Ability to carry out continuing assignments requiring the organizing of materials and the preparation of reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
