Litigation - Whistleblower - CFTC

Paralegal Specialist, GS-0950-12/12 Duties: Provide litigation case management support in federal district court and appeals court cases involving extensive agency records, discovery procedures, court exhibits, and witnesses, including filing documents with such courts and assisting attorneys with case analysis, investigation, discovery, obtaining expert witnesses, and preparation of cases for trial. Draft correspondence and a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, decisions, and notices of appearance, docketing statements, and bills of costs. Draft complaints in OED disciplinary matters. Prepares reports and presentations using word processing and database applications. Communicate verbally and in writing with members of the public, attorneys, agents, inventors, various courts, other agencies, Federal and state law enforcement offices, witnesses and potential witnesses, and USPTO personnel. Conduct legal research in law libraries and on computer databases such as WESTLAW, PACER, the USPTO’s electronic databases, and other online sources to obtain information and materials requested by attorneys and find legal precedent, legislative history, articles, and other information in the highly specialized and substantive area of intellectual property law. Review, analyze, cite check, and edit USPTO legal documents for conformance with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, the principles of the patent and trademark statutes and regulations, and the rules of the particular federal court in which a paper is being filed to ensure proper form, accurate code and case law citations, and continuity and clarity of text. Traveling is required.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must meet the following United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements for the advertised position. Must meet all qualification requirements including time-in-grade (refer to 5 CFR 300.604 for more information on time-in-grade) by the closing date of the job announcement. Specialized Experience: is experience that has equipped with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level. Candidates for the GS-12 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Skill Set 1 - Providing litigation case management support such as managing case files,, filing documents with courts, assisting attorneys with case analysis and investigations, and preparing cases for trials in federal district court and appellate court cases involving intellectual property (patent and/or trademark) law. And Skill Set 2 - Conducting legal research in law libraries, computer databases and other online sources to obtain information and materials requested by attorneys. AND Skill Set 3 - Drafting correspondence and a variety of legal documents such as pleadings, motions, decisions, and docketing statements.
