Senior Trademark Paralegal Responsibilities : The candidate will provide legal services and resolves legal matters for assigned responsibilities or clients. Supports the business in the achievement of business objectives by communicating advice of the Legal Department and managing legal risks to the corporation. Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. Identifies moderately complex legal issues related to assigned matter; proposes alternative solutions. Performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts including analysis, drafting, negotiating and consulting. Resolves routine and moderately complex to complex legal matters in area of responsibility with minimal supervision. Performs independent analysis of unique problems and proposes solutions to a more experienced paralegal or attorney. Assists more experienced paralegals and/or attorneys in resolving complex legal issues on projects involving multiple disciplines within the Legal Division and/or multiple functional areas or divisions within the company. Possesses solid knowledge of company’s businesses supported and knowledge of the broader business impact. Keeps abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas. Represents the company externally to customers, suppliers, competitors, opposing counsel or government agencies; resolves legal issues using negotiation skills and legal experience involving more complex matters. Represents Legal Division internally to clients. Helps select and/or directs the work of outside counsel, outside paralegals, contractors and vendors; defines project objectives and manages project. Performs complex queries in trademark database, generates reports from trademark database and performs analysis of same (familiarity with WEBTMS preferred but not required or other trademark docketing and matter management platform). Performs complex online investigations. Performs complex trademark screening and assists Attorneys in full trademark clearance, including corresponding with clients regarding search details. Monitors, maintains and acts on trademark docket deadlines, including corresponding with clients and outside counsel regarding same. Reviews and responds to complex trademark correspondence from global trademark agents related to prosecution and enforcement matters, with minimal supervision from Attorney or Paralegal Supervisor. Reviews and responds to complex client inquiries, for example, regarding filing or conflict strategies or analysis of client materials for proper trademark use, with minimal supervision from Attorney or Paralegal Supervisor. Proficient at review and drafting of standard trademark and copyright agreements and other documents (e.g. assignments, complex cease-and-desist letters). Strategically gathers trademark use evidence for prosecution, conflict and renewal matters. Conducts strategic enforcement activities, including complicated social media takedowns and domain name enforcement with minimal Attorney or Paralegal Supervisor supervision. Monitors and analyzes potential online infringements, with limited Attorney oversight and Paralegal Supervisor supervision. Develops short and long-term enforcement strategy recommendations with input from Attorneys and Paralegal Supervisor. With supervision, conducts special training for less senior paralegals, for example in enforcement and screening strategies. Assists with analyzing budget spend, develops estimates for outside counsel fees on assigned matters, including clearance and filing projects and reviews and approves outside counsel invoices with minimal supervision. Other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements : The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree and / or relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate). Generally 4 – 7 years of relevant experience is required. Proficient in area of responsibility. Have an intermediate understanding of: trademark clearance, prosecution and maintenance; trademark and copyright enforcement; copyright protection; trademark and copyright licensing and similar agreements including co-existence and settlement agreements. Proficient at corresponding with internal clients and outside counsel in a wide range of trademark and copyright matters. Advises legal department managers of critical project developments in a timely manner. Executes core job responsibilities in a timely manner. Interacts across all levels of management. Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as the ability to work independently and balance competing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail. Demonstrates strong leadership competencies, considered as a potential successor to the Paralegal Supervisor.
