Litigation - General (consumer)
Paralegal Assistant Responsibilities: Will join a full-service litigation and business law firm, serving clients with domestic and international operations. Will work in the Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation Unit. Provide attorneys and paralegals with assistance in managing case files. Provide assembly/duplication of supporting documents in case preparation for motions, depositions and trials, including organizing documents chronologically or alphabetically, tab and assembly of exhibits, packets, etc. Draft answers to complaints. Triage all incoming asbestos mail, electronic and hard copy, and distribute to proper team members. Assist with filing in large document cases. Retrieve specific documents such as pleadings, exhibits, depositions, etc. as requested by attorney/paralegal. Maintain settlement release files. Create and prepare subfiles as needed. Assist in preparing presentations to clients, proposals to potential clients, briefs, document productions, preparation for deposition. Bates label documents. Request/collect information from various other organizations/firms; prepare cover letter and arrange for payment of copy charges. Prepare trial exhibit notebooks. Prepare and maintain file indexes including pleading indexes. Maintain case management database. Coordinate with the Central Records Depository to collect pathology, radiology, interrogatories, and medical records. Central Records Depository billing. Maintain medical records. Research and prepare lists of important names, addresses, phone numbers, and other information in specific cases and maintain current lists. Assist with preparing summons, certificates of service and electronic court filing (ECF). Expected to meet annual targeted billable hours of 1000. Assist with other tasks as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Paralegal certificate preferred. Asbestos experience preferred. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize workflow and manage time. Ability to deliver superior service to all internal and external customers and communicate effectively. Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with clients and employees at all times; professional appearance required. Ability to successfully perform position requirements with excellent organizational, time-management and prioritization skills required.
