Manager, Insurance Duties: Responsible for assisting in the oversight, the Bermuda-based captive insurance vehicle for Hartford Healthcare and participating independent physicians. Responsible for the management of other insurance programs and policies with annual premiums of $12 million. Work directly with the SVP, Finance and Treasurer to coordinate all functions relating to off-shore management company, actuaries, insurance broker, external auditors, third party administrators and legal counsel in the management. Assist in the organization of the off-shore Board of Directors meetings, including the Annual Meeting. Additionally responsible for supporting ad hoc informational sessions as needed. Manage the Voluntary Attending Physician (VAP) program that includes over 400 participating physicians (25 physician groups) who are on the active staff of the HHC hospitals. Work with physicians and their practice managers to extend coverage to new physicians as well as provide other coverage as needed. Attend quarterly meetings with major physician groups to exchange information and ensure program meets their changing requirements. Oversee monthly billing of premiums with an annual value of $12 million. Work with insurance broker to develop the excess insurance program. Coordinate with HHC Human Resources the risk transfer of the high dollar employee medical costs to the stop loss program. Work with broker, actuaries, excess carriers and nurse case managers on employee medical claims which impact. Provide on-going oversight of large claims that impact. Oversee and administer the commercial insurance policies of Hartford Healthcare, including property, automobile, general liability, cyber-liability, director and officer coverage, fiduciary and employee crime exposure and any other policies as needed. Work with affiliate vice-presidents and directors on policy-relating issues, as well as coordinate with broker to issue certificates of insurance. Work with insured affiliates and physicians to develop additional underwriting opportunities (e.g. new lines of business or coverage) both for the captive and the other insurances, including improved loss mitigation. Support risk management functions across system. Work with Bermuda managers, Bermuda auditors and HHC auditors in completion of annual audited and statutory financial statements. Develop annual budget, including premium and claim projections, HHC salary allocations and expenses. Also responsible for Hospital’s Insurance Department budget. Coordinate of major insurance losses across system. Work with claims adjusters to determine loss. Compile and submit the information needed for filings of losses and related costs with IT, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Services, Engineering and others to ensure that all applicable costs are identified and reimbursed. Be a subject matter expert for insured affiliates, physicians and practice managers with questions for their insurance coverage. Process all applications for insurance policies. Coordinate information from multiple stakeholders. Work with underwriters with any questions or additional information needs. Work with Bermuda manager, TPA and HHC Investment Department to optimize cash flow.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: B.S./B.A. Degree. Preferred: B.S./B.A. Paralegal or MBA a plus. 8 years in commercial insurance, risk management or insurance broker. Insurance broker license or certification, Fluent in English. Understanding of financial management, including, budgeting, investments, and forecasting; Knowledge of both domestic and foreign insurance marketplace and trends; Adept at clinical loss mitigation discussions and strategies. Must have proven excellent communication skills across multiple disciplines. Consensus building skills is required.
