Tribal Court Clerk Duties: The candidate will ensure clerical duties and responsibilities of the Tribal Court are met. Will assist Court Administrator in the development of judicial and Tribal Court infrastructure. Fulfill a full range of clerical responsibilities for the Tribal Court by performing requisite duties and meeting Court hearing needs. Develop case clerking competencies for the full range of matters over which the Tribal Court exercises sovereign jurisdiction, i.e.: developing a mastery of Court procedures and processes; and demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and competence at all times. Accept and file pleadings, prepare case files, enter case information in the case management system, prepare notices of hearings and coordinate service of process for various cases, ability to perform all the clerical responsibilities and duties in all areas of Tribal jurisdiction which includes, to: child protection;foreign court child support orders filed for federal “full faith and credit” recognition and enforcement; foreign court actions filed for “comity” recognition and enforcement; garnishments, withholdings, and other post-judgment matters; foreign court delinquent child support actions against tribal per capita distributions; general civil; criminal offenses; and civil infractions. Develop and maintain case files, document case activity and pertinent case information in computer records and case files, and ensure case files are prepared, complete, up-to-date, and available for scheduled hearings. Schedule court proceedings and issues proper notice to all parties. Prepare Courtroom for the proper conduct of hearings and meetings and ensure the complete and accurate recording of all court proceedings. Receive, issue receipts, record and deposit fines, fees, court costs, restitution, reimbursement, and all other monies and/or properties utilizing court and accounting procedures. Enter required case management information into automated case flow management system to ensure timely, efficient and effective case flow management, as well as data collection for reporting purposes. Provide information to attorneys, law enforcement officers, plaintiffs, defendants, court patrons and agencies regarding court policies and procedures, case status, and the scheduling of court hearings. Answer phones, manage schedules, assist with questions, and process incoming and outgoing mail. Maintain legal volumes to ensure that law library is up-to-date. Assist Court Administrator in the development of court forms, templates and other Court infrastructure. Perform other related functions as MS Office Applications, Internet, JustWare case management, Editor software, database reporting software.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification and Experience: The candidate should have Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Degree must be from an accredited institution whose program of study has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education. Relevant experience in lieu of degree is considered. Completion of a Paralegal Certificate Program Degree is preferred. Should have 3+ years of prior clerical work experience. 2+ years of prior clerking experience in a court is strongly preferred. Understanding of appropriate processes and procedures for the variety of matters under the jurisdiction of the Tribal Court or the ability to develop complete competencies and a comprehensive understanding of processes and procedures is required. Excellent MS Office applications skills is required. Experience working with Native American communities is preferred. Should have professional level of writing skill in the preparation of office correspondence, and various judgments and orders based on the record of a particular case. Professional writing skills include to: spelling; punctuation; sentence structure; and reasoning skills to form a logical sequence of findings and provisions of orders based on the record of a particular case.
