Paralegal/Legal Assistant II The candidate will review case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration. Search for and summarizes relevant articles in trade magazines, law reviews, published studies, financial reports, and similar materials for use of attorneys in the preparation of opinions, briefs, and other legal documents. Prepare digests of selected decisions or opinions which incorporate legal references and analyses of precedents involved in areas of well-defined and settled points of law. Interview potential witnesses and prepares summary interview reports for the attorney's review; Participates in pre-trial witness conferences, notes possible deficiencies in case materials (e. g. , missing documents, conflicting statements) and additional issues or other questionable matters, and requests further investigation by other agency personnel to correct possible deficiencies or personally conducts limited investigations at the pre-trial stage. Prepare and organize trial exhibits, as required, such as statistical charts and photographic exhibits. Verify citations and legal references on prepared legal documents. Prepare summaries of testimony and depositions. Draft and edit non legal memoranda, research reports and correspondence relating to cases. A paralegal certificate required. 2+ years of litigation paralegal experience required, trial experience preferred. 1+ year of experience in automated litigation support required. Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources required. Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw preferred. Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources required.
