Paralegal - Tribal Department: Child Support Program Duties: The candidate will provide assistance to the Child Support Reservation Attorney and Case Managers on a variety of cases with a variety of skills. Will maintain certification to perform buccal swab genetic testing on clients when indicated for paternity establishment. Maintain a working knowledge of the Child Support Code and Policy and Procedures. Perform regular case management services for all active clients utilizing the case management system, ensuring availability to answer question, initiate case action in the event of non-payment and modify orders for changes in client’s circumstances. Identify and utilize all collection actions on cases with the goal of minimizing family conflict by working with parents to obtain cooperation when possible. Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, other Tribal entities and state and Tribal IV-D agencies. Cooperate with other jurisdiction in a professional manner to collect debts, locate parents, facilitate write-offs and gain full faith and credit on foreign orders. Work with non-custodial parents and employers to establish automatic wage withholdings and serve orders using the deferral wage withholding form. Calculate current and past debt department obligations based on schedule and guidelines and negotiate terms for repayment and assisting parties in reaching arrangements. Refer cases to other IV-D programs when necessary using proper procedures. Professionally represent the child support program and attend various community meetings and events to promote the goals and market the services of the program. Meticulously maintain client file by keeping clear records of actions, conversations and correspondence. Attend training as necessary, including some out of state travel. Maintain high ethical standards for him/her and the child support office is as organized, professional and efficient as possible. Perform other related duties as deemed necessary or requested.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification and Experience: The candidate should have High School Diploma or GED. Business, computer and related software courses is required. AA/Certificate in Paralegal studies is required. Associated Degree in Business Law or equivalent vocational degree of related courses is preferred. Must have 5+ years’ Paralegal experience, 3+ years of customer service experience, 2+ years’ experience in a position that required compliance with confidentiality, 2+ years’ experience in Microsoft Office application, particularly Word, Excel and Access, 1+ year of experience with Child Support, TANF program, Beda? Chelh and Tribal Court. Ability to type 35 wpm is essential. (Test Required). Must maintain all office records in strictest confidentiality according to Washington State Bar standards. Must have a basic understanding of the Native American Community.
