Paralegal Responsibilities : The candidate will be responsible for assisting in case preparation, pretrial and trial preparation both in and outside the courtroom. Developing and following research trails using internal and external tools and databases. Locating and interviewing clients, clients’ relatives and witnesses. Organizing extensive discovery documents, including school and medical records. Coordinate document production. Assembling trial exhibits. Creating maps, diagrams, and layout for use as visual aids for trial. Reviewing legal forms for accuracy. Coordinating case schedules with court, clients, witnesses and attorneys. Managing case files/documenting in the electronic case management system. Photocopying, collating. Handling other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements : The candidate should have Bachelor’s and/or paralegal degree/certificate. Two(2) years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant may be substituted for a paralegal certificate. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred, as travel may be required from time to time. Should be both highly organized and detail oriented, and yet enjoys interacting with people in a friendly, fast paced work environment. Must be able to work comfortably with a legal team including the trial attorney, social worker and appellate attorney and with clients and witnesses from all walks of life. Must possess the capacity to understand complex legal concepts and their application in everyday lives of children, their parents, and guardians. Position requires regular computer usage. Strong computer skills and the ability to use and adapt to a variety of software programs a must. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. The ability to perform legal research and experience with Lexis. Knowledge of legal terminology and principles. Self, starter, with proven ability to work independently and as part of a team with the ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast paced environment. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and workplace etiquette. Excellent organizational skills, project completion skills with a strong attention to detail. A sincere interest in the public sector and in working with clients who are indigent and may have unique life challenges, and an overall understanding of the child welfare system.
