Legal Assistant Duties: Handles and maintains portfolios as assigned. Answer and screen telephone calls in a professional and timely manner; take accurate messages with a high degree of professionalism and courtesy; arrange conference calls. Preview daily incoming internal/external electronic mail/messages and take initial actions. Work collaboratively with attorneys and support staff in drafting legal documents. Maintain calendars and all scheduling to ensure the most efficient and effective use of the attorney’s time. Manage and coordinate complex schedules including internal and external meetings and court hearings; ensure all parties are informed of and kept abreast of schedules. Obtain knowledge of case management system, terminology and procedures. Review and interpret all documents (legal & otherwise) deed of trusts, notes, assignments, property title, dockets, pleadings, etc. Respond to court notifications and inquiries received from clients, debtors and debtors' attorneys. Monitor client systems to ensure prompt response. Data entry to update client system and internal databases. Promptly determine when attorney action is required.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Bankruptcy experience is a plus. Must be proficient in the use of computers, copiers, fax machines, and general software. Attention to detail to perform accurate and quality work is a necessity. Effective organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage priorities and workflow in a high-volume environment. Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
