Litigation Paralegal Duties: Responsible for researching and reviewing Litigation files. Act as a point of support to attorneys through client correspondence, drafting, filing, and necessary file maintenance. Under limited supervision, draft the following: Appearances, Answers, Affidavits, Motions, Appeal Briefs, Pleadings, Discoveries, Notices, Certificates, Reponses, and any general communication with the courts or opposing counsel. Ensure all documents are drafted to meet deadlines and prioritized based on urgency Prepare exhibit packages, including: reviewing internal databases and client sites, requesting needed documents to include as exhibits; review documents extensively and redact all non-public information Work case files through entire litigation process Meet with assigned attorney on a daily basis to discuss cases, drafting needs, upcoming hearings, and case strategies Manage attorney calendar for hearing dates, follow-ups, conference calls, copy due dates, and other miscellaneous appointments. Prepare spreadsheets of upcoming hearing dates and statuses on assigned files for attorney s review Research, analyze, and evaluate assigned litigated files and provide local appearing counsel and covering attorneys with instructions regarding hearings on said files Submit fee requests internally for litigated matters on behalf of the attorney Preliminary research on such items as title issues on recorder and assessor websites Contact opposing counsel regarding cases including settlement negotiations, status on loan modification applications, et cetera Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Federal & State court rulings to ensure adherence Respond to general case inquiries and communicate routinely with clients through email and on client site platforms Serve as a liaison between attorney and client for complex and legal inquiries on assigned files Provide status updates on assigned files via spreadsheets to clients when requested Review client inquiries for statuses on files and forwarding to appropriate parties Maintain general upkeep of assigned files through routine monitoring, and necessary escalation to internal and external contacts Evaluate findings and suggest strategies and arguments for attorneys in preparation for presentation in court Run litigation reports and fix problematic files Prepare files for judgment Oversee the activity, timelines and progress of dispute and title files Follow up and collaborate with title companies and title counsel for claim progress and timely resolution Follow up with Accounts Receivable for fee approvals by the client for attorney Review client sites periodically to ensure correct Plaintiff/Entity name Scan and upload entered orders, attorney drafts, email correspondence, etc., to client sites and internal systems Review contracts including but not limited to mortgage, note, settlements, loan origination documents Check that financial reports and records in NIBS are accurate and reliable Inspect accounting systems and use data from recorded transactions in order to prepare attorney s fees affidavits Check court dockets File documents and schedule motions with county clerks Deliver pleadings to file clerk for filing/scheduling, mail to service list and file with the Courthouse Prepare and submit courtesy copies for hearings on assigned files, deliver to court, and verify copies were received Send orders, releases, and other relevant documents for recording. Qualifications: Bachelor Degree or combination of litigation experience and/or specific associate degree in Paralegal Studies may be considered in lieu of Bachelor Degree. 1 year litigation experience. 2-3 years experience working within a real estate, banking or foreclosure environment. Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel &Outlook. Capacity to train the litigation process and policies to others. Understanding of Local, State & Federal Supreme Court Rules and Procedures. Ability to conduct & report research results, conduct audits, and ensure legal compliance,. Documentation Skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of litigation deadlines. Ability to utilize multiple internal computer systems. Ability to multitask and prioritize in an extremely fast paced environment. Capacity to handle a high volume of communications and files each day. Ability to retain and manage sensitive and confidential information. Aptitude to quickly learn and navigate legal client systems. Extreme attention to details and ability to interpret legal terminology.
