Paralegal / Legal Assistant I The candidate will provides a variety of direct litigation support assistance services to assigned Assistant United States Attorneys and staff. Will examine, prepare and process a variety of technical legal documents which are characteristically complex in format. Review incoming material and determines the need for assembly and preparation of a variety of legal documents including Criminal or Civil complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas and similar legal documents. Provide assistance to assigned staff in trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists. Use original and online legal resources, verifies citations and statutory references contained in legal documents. Receives visitors and telephone callers. Establish and maintain a variety of legal files. Provide case related information to docketing personnel to be included in the case management database. Arrange travel by preparing itinerary, securing transportation, making lodging reservations, and preparing travel authorizations and vouchers. Produce a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications. Consult prescribed sources of information for facts relating to matters of interest to the program. Review documents to extract selected data and information relating to specific items. Review and summarize information in prescribed format on case precedent and decisions. Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer-data banks; Attends hearings or court appearances to become informed on administrative and/or court procedures and the status of cases, and where necessary, assists in the presentation of charts and other visual information. Paralegal Certification is needed. Bachelor's degree is recommended.
