Insurance Defense Paralegal The candidate will work directly with partners, attorneys and department paralegals to prepare answers, motions, and discovery for high volume property damage and bodily injury caseload, get involved in fact-finding projects, and be responsible for maintaining their files in an online case management system and indexing claim numbers for assigned cases. Draft and file/mail 6-10 answers per day, and be communicative, organized, professional, responsible, and committed to helping meet client's needs. Set up captions in case management system and in Word document templates for answers and motions. Draft notification letters to insured, drivers and broker. Draft answers for property damage and bodily injury summons and complaints based on case specifications and attorney requests. Work with attorneys and paralegals to complete indexing and case management reporting. Draft correspondence, pleadings, motions, briefs and many other documents needed in preparation for court. Complete online case file indexing for all ongoing cases. Review insurance coverage details for property damage and bodily injury. Interact with Investigations, Claims (PDBI) and Underwriting to evaluate coverage. Scan/copy legal documents for motions and affirmative litigation units. Draft, review and respond to stipulations, third-party actions, discovery demands and court orders. Draft motions to consolidate and letters to brokers and plaintiff's counsel. Review Orders and Note of Issues to determine discovery needs. Interact with medical providers and attorneys to set-up EBTs and IMEs. Process medical authorizations and prepare demands. Process authorizations to obtain no-fault, employment, IRS, workers compensation and school records. Document and coordinate the transfer of files to outside trial counsel.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have an Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Industry recognized certification from organizations such as NALA or AACP is required. Must have experience in using legal database software and online case management programs. Strong computer skills and keyboard abilities are needed. Should have knowledge of e-filing in the New York State Court system. Must be proficient in MS Office Suite and Adobe PDF software programs.
