Technical Consultant The candidate will work closely with top lawyers on a wide variety of matters: developing and implementing patent filing strategies; conducting interviews with clients to obtain invention disclosures; preparing patent applications under the supervision of a patent attorney; analyzing office actions and preparing responses under the supervision of a patent attorney. Will assist in formulating and preparing infringement and validity analyses, work on patent post-grant proceedings, assist in patent and other litigation, and support intellectual property licensing and other transactions. Working closely with attorneys, patent agents, other technical consultants, and staff, the technical consultant will research inventions and draft specifications using technical expertise in the field while following the ethical requirements as set forth by the Firm’s professional liability insurer.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a background in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Ph.D. is preferred. Preferably have experience in conducting physics and engineering-related legal research and preparing patent applications. Should be a patent agent or be eligible to sit for the patent Bar examination. Must be able to quickly learn new technologies and lexicons, have a strong ability to write scientific and technical documents in clear, concise English, have excellent attention to detail and be a highly-motivated, business-minded, team player. Should be able to effectively manage multiple matters simultaneously with various deadlines, have the technical and analytical skills necessary to conduct complex and detailed analysis of patent-related matters, and have the interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys, staff, and clients and provide information with courtesy and tact in person, electronically, or by phone.
