Federal Relations Assistant Duties: Under the general supervision of the Federal Relations Group and DC Office Administrator and according to established Firm policies and procedures, performs a variety of administrative duties for Federal Relations clients and potential clients; maintains positive contact with clients, Legislative Branch and Executive Branch contacts, attorneys and staff; and observes confidentiality of client matters. Coordinate all administrative support functions for the Federal Relations group: Opening new files, requesting conflict and credit checks, and maintaining all client and general files. Processing clients bills, edit billing pro formas, and submitting to accounting. Submitting and track expense reports in firm system. Inputting, editing, and proofreading attorney and other legal personnel time entry. Managing group subscriptions to print and on line publications. Assisting with overflow support as needed. Assists Federal Relations group by scheduling meetings, coordinating events, and ordering meals; assists with travel itineraries and arrangements for lobbyists and clients. Manages the process for the Federal Relations group of tracking legislative and regulatory issues and monitoring the status of pertinent bills, regulations or proceedings. Assists other firm personnel in the collection of information used for tracking, preparing and submitting registration and disclosure forms required to comply with Lobbying Disclosure Act, Foreign Agents Registration Act, and other lobbyist disclosure regulations. Provides news clips, reports and analysis to attorneys and clients concerning relevant issues, regulations, legislation. Manages requests for clients; includes organizing, submitting, and monitoring appropriations requests. Attends events on behalf of clients as requested. Develops and maintains relationships with Legislative Branch and Executive Branch staff members to obtain relevant information for clients about upcoming legislative or executive action. Other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and/or 1-2 years on the job experience necessary in order to gain a general understanding of policies and procedures and produce accurate documents with minimal supervision. Demonstrate competence in the operation of computer applications, specifically, Microsoft Word, iManage, Time Entry (Carpe Diem), PowerPoint, Excel, ChromeRiver expense system, and other firm software, as required. Ability to read and write in order to produce, proof, and edit documents and correspondence. Perform basic arithmetic calculations when verifying calculations on bills, forms and documents; maintain records and filing systems at a level normally acquired through completion of high school or equivalent. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them within established time constraints. Consult with Office Administrator and Group when priorities conflict. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in person, by e-mail, and telephone to provide information with ordinary courtesy, ease, and tact. Ability to produce a high volume of work, requiring high mental competency, while performing other essential duties. Ability to work effectively, appropriately and independently.
