Director of Information and Research The candidate will design and roll out a global structure with reporting lines for managing varying roles and different business needs. Will develop and implement the strategy for the delivery of a global information function to take account of both the operational delivery of information and development of expertise. Write and ensure the use of best practice for all areas within the information function. Develop a reporting method to demonstrate the benefit of information to the business and an approach to identify and implement improvements. Identify areas for centralization of services within Information, ensuring the right people in the right place provide a high quality service to lawyers and clients, promoting greater use of cost-effective centres. Write and instigate the use of a development framework for the Information community to ensure all potential is appropriately nurtured. Work with local teams to assess the level of information in each office and explore areas for improvement, including developing Information teams to provide KM support to practice groups. Work with the Information community, Knowledge Champions, PSLs and other Knowledge professionals across the firm to assess the quality and quantity of information, and design a change management plan to ensure strategic changes are smoothly implemented. Align the procurement processes globally across all offices to ensure a consistent approach to contract negotiation and vendor management. Ensure each library team is fully aware of and involved in the global Information strategy and procurement plan to reduce cost and risk by improving the use of procurement best practice. Identify and manage key global and regional accounts and develop more focused vendor relationships. Ensure the use of procurement and library management systems globally and within offices and the use of data generated from them in order to maximize their functionality and the use of appropriate resources. Provide full support and training for resources, ensuring high global awareness and use of information. Develop the service to enable the global provision of research across the suite of research areas required by the business: Legal / regulatory research; Clients / market / competitor research; Company and business research. Undertake a review of research carried out by offices, develop a strategy for improvement and where appropriate make recommendations for centralization, appreciating the need for local offices to have the ability to make local decisions about it. Work with Business Development and other key stakeholders to provide sector support. Build an understanding of the enquiries fielded by the Information community and look to streamline this process and knowledge generated. Make ongoing recommendations to develop and harmonise the current awareness and news services. Encourage the use of systems, for example Vable and Lexis, to bring efficiencies and increase service responsiveness. Create a strong global Information community. Mentor those Information resources with the most potential and look for opportunities to develop and progress them. Understand capacity levels within the Information community and look to provide full utilization of resources. Develop relationships with key internal stakeholders, Knowledge Champions, PSLs, practice and industry groups, as well as external contacts such as clients and vendors, acting as a role model to the Information community. Manage the global information procurement budget to ensure the firm maximizes value from its external spend. Create a strategy to streamline budgets, identify ways of cost cutting, enable reporting against the budgets and enable aspects of them to be administered locally. Ensure the business benefit of both local and global budget spend are appropriately discussed and reviewed with local and global PGs and key budget stakeholders.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have deep understanding of Information in a professional services environment. Must have 10+ years’ experience, ideally gained within a law firm. Experience with various information systems and the ability to bring efficiencies and cost savings is required.
