Profile

IP Support Manager The candidate will ne responsible for managing the daily operations of the IPCT group’s team of support staff for patent and trademark, foreign and domestic practices, and to ensure consistency of processes and work quality across offices. Works closely with the Practice Group Leaders and IP Administrator in creating, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures related to the Firm’s patent/trademark prosecution process. This is a highly visible role and will require daily interaction with attorneys and staff, and must maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters. Supervises IPCT staff and oversees day-to-day operations firm-wide. Coordinates staff workload allocation, managing OT and facilitating cross-office support. Develops and manages talent for all direct reports, including hiring, training and career development. Facilitates training on IP-specific topics during the onboarding orientation and training period. Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, counseling, staffing decisions and career development for all IPCT staff. Participates in recruiting, interviewing, and making recommendations for the hiring of local office prosecution staff positions. Participates in practice group and firm-wide initiatives to streamline and standardize workflow and processes: evaluates workflow processes and procedures on an ongoing basis, recommends continuous improvements to ensure achievement of quality control standards and adherence to risk management protocols, consistently implement IPCT support strategies. Distributes information to the IPCT group, i.e., rule changes, practice-related announcements, etc. In conjunction with Functional Department Leaders, coordinates resources to arrange effective onboarding and exit of IPCT Attorneys. Assists with file transfers, including working with PGLs and IP Administrator to reassign and/or close matters. Participates in regular meetings with Functional Department Leaders, Practice Group Leaders, IP Administrator and other firm leaders as required. Other related tasks and duties as assigned. Should have Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience; law firm experience preferred. Must have 7-10 years IP experience and 5-7 years of supervisory management required. Knowledge of USPTO practices and procedures, including working experience with e-filing, PAIR, TSDR is needed. Must have srong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including ability to express ideas effectively to individuals and groups. Should have demonstrated ability in investigating and analyzing problems, seeking clarification and support where needed, and reporting to supervisors when appropriate. Should have ability to gain the trust, respect and confidence of attorneys and staff. Must have ability to hold staff accountable to job expectations. Must have ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite including WORD, Excel and Power Point, document management systems such as NetDocs. Should have ability to travel as needed. Should have ability to deliver excellent internal and external client service, independently as well as collaboratively.
