Business Development Manager The candidate will support the corporate and litigation practice groups. Will report to the Chief Business Development Officer. Play a critical role in the evolution of the firm's business development and marketing strategy. Work with all members of both practice groups and all members of the Business Development team to develop and support strategic marketing and business development initiatives that help drive new business from both existing clients and prospects. Work closely with the Practice Group Management team to foster a culture of business development and marketing collaboration across practice and industry group lines. Assist an individual office and/or industry groups in the future dependent upon skill set and the strategic needs of the firm. Draft effective sales and business development collateral including pitch and RFP responses. Develop a formal marketing and business development plans for the firm's Corporate and Litigation practice groups by leveraging the firm-wide strategic plan and any industry or office plans. These plans should follow, but will not be constrained by, the firm's marketing and business development plan template. As appropriate, assist attorneys with development of individual business plans that clearly support the industry or initiative plan. Position and draft appropriate messaging in sales collateral and marketing materials including advertisements and legal surveys such as Chambers USA and Best Lawyers. Track and manage all group matters, develop descriptions that are appropriate for use in pitches, press releases and on firm website as appropriate. Develop and maintain a robust understanding of supported groups including the products and services they offer to the firm's clients. Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the legal experience within each group in order to market this experience and identify potential synergies where existing experience can be applied to existing clients as well as new prospects. Remain up-to-date on legal and industry trends in order to identify ways for the group to differentiate themselves within the marketplace and identify new, niche areas for the firm to explore. Regularly communicate with the firm's other business development professionals and arrange for and support appropriate cross-marketing efforts. Ensure that all content and publishable expertise is leveraged across any and all distribution channels. In many cases, this will involve working with the firm's PR, Marketing Technology and Graphic Design resources to identify ways in which the same information can be delivered to different audiences. Own all industry group relationships in which the supported groups and attorneys are involved. This will include identifying and leveraging all benefits as well as determining and tracking ROI from the business development perspective and reporting on budgeting requirements. Continually evaluate existing marketing and business development plans and track of ROI on any and all initiatives. Act as a general advisor to the practice group leads as well as individual partners and senior associates, in connection with all marketing and business development activities including, identifying business development opportunities with new and existing clients. With the Director of Client Service, support the firm's client interview process by supplying historical (internal and external) data on clients that are being targeted by the Managing Partners and other firm management for interviews. In addition, be in a position to suggest clients to be interviewed as appropriate and necessary. Provide support for Client Service Teams as appropriate and at the direction of the Director of Client Service. Responsible for regularly updating the overall marketing team on initiatives and best practices from the supported groups to foster a department that is well- positioned to leverage all best practices firm wide and support an environment of cross-selling. Ensure a clean and timely flow of information on department and industry area tactical actions and experience that can be leveraged for PR purposes. This will include, information on matters that can be highlighted, information on new products and services that attorneys are developing and information on trends within the industry areas supported. Collaborate with the Events team, identify and provide support for client seminars, attorney speaking engagements and other marketing events and sponsorships. Leverage the firm's research processes and resources, tools and templates provide actionable business intelligence to the industry and initiatives supported. This may include, but is not limited to, prospect research; industry or geographic research; and, competitive analysis at the industry area level. With practice group leaders develop a sales pipeline of viable and strategic targets that is integrated into the group's business development and marketing plan. Maintain and update mailing lists for supported groups to ensure they accurately reflect the clients and prospects. In conjunction with this, act as an ambassador to the supported industries on the strategic importance of CRM to the firm's business development initiatives. A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in marketing, communications or a related field. Must have 7-10 years of marketing or business development experience, with significant and demonstrable project management experience. Should have proven experience in managing both project-based and contributing to longer-term marketing and communications budgets. Experience in a law firm and/or professional services industry is preferred.
